While Fifa has announced that the 2030 FIFA World Cup will be played on three continents (Europe, Africa and America), some public figures have denounced this decision. Like Dominique Rocheteau, former glory of AS Saint-Etienne and guest on the show "Le studio des légendes", who explains this by "financial reasons".

One World Cup, three continents. On 4 October, FIFA announced that it had reached an agreement with the European, African and South American football confederations on a single bid for the 2030 World Cup. Apart from the opening matches in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, the 2030 World Cup will take place in Morocco, Spain and Portugal. For the occasion, Dominique Rocheteau, one of the legends of the "Greens" of Saint-Etienne and the France football team, spoke in the show Le studio des légendes and returns to the decision of Fifa to play the World Cup on three continents.

"The image of football is taking a hit"

When asked about the subject, the former France international immediately took a position. "For me, it's only for financial reasons and to please certain countries. A World Cup should be played in one country, or even two, but not in three continents," said Dominique Rocheteau to Jacques Vendroux. The latter also specifies that Fifa could have its official headquarters in Paris for tax reasons. "We're losing a lot of things right now, it's not good at all," the journalist said.

For Dominique Rocheteau, "the image of football is taking a hit, we have to be careful". "I'm in the stadiums, I meet people who, more and more, tell me that they prefer to go and watch a rugby match," laments the former Saint-Etienne player.
